Shelley trained with Liz Small (Madame Butterfly), and has taken workshops with Nick and Brian Wolfe, Mark Reid, and Jinny Gagne (consultant to Cirque de Soleil), all internationally known face and body artists, as well as a Henna Workshop with Erika Harrison of Amerikan Body Art.

As a certified member of F.A.C.E. (the international face painting association) and CAFABA, Shelley follows a strict code of practice, which includes keeping her work area and equipment clean, using new sponges on every face, and not painting faces with cold sores or other skin problems. Shelley uses only cosmetic quality paints, including Fantasy Worldwide, Paradise, Fardel, Kryolan, and Wolfe Brothers; Shelley also uses cosmetic glitter, never craft glitter which can harm the eyes.
